Here’s the latest update from AAC Artist, Mentor and Co-Vice-President:

Student Exhibition: I am excited to announce that my Student Exhibition opens at the Farmstead Art Center on Monday, August 1st. I wish to thank everyone who participated in this year’s show. I think that this truly captures what art is about. The walls are full of complete, beautiful pieces. I am so very proud of them all! The exhibition runs until September 10. Contact the Farmstead Arts Center for more information.

The opening reception will take place on Sunday, August 7th, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. Please bring your friends and family to see what great work my students have done. Hopefully, it will inspire you to take a class, or two.

LEAVING AN IMPRESSION: A PORTRAIT OF EDWARD DUFNER

Watch this fascinating behind the scenes documentary that follows the town’s November 2017 restoration of the American impressionist paintings by Dufner.  These paintings are on permanent display in the Millburn library.

JOURNALING WORKSHOP Friday, September 10, 2021 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

With Peter P. Blanchard III, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board Find great satisfaction in closely observing nature through journaling, the practice of keeping a personal record using a combination of writing and sketching. Guided by Peter, who has joyfully employed this practice for decades, you will spend one hour in an introductory session, fol-lowed by the opportunity to add an optional extra hour to practice what you’ve learned. Bring your own sketch pads pencils, pens, and markers.

EN PLEIN AIR WATERCOLOR PAINTING

Are you a watercolorist longing for a unique setting in which to practice your art? If so, Greenwood welcomes artists of every skill level to our historic garden oasis for a mid-autumn day of en plein air painting. Our century-old site offers magical views, iconic Arts and Crafts style follies, stately fountains, winding paths, bucolic ponds, and wandering geese. Artist easels are permitted, so long as pathways are not blocked or placed in the planted beds. Watercolors ONLY and drop cloth required to participate.

This session will focus on the Eight Pieces of Brocade, a classic series of movements from which anyone can benefit and which will be performed in different locations throughout the gardens. $15 members; $20 non-members

SCAVENGER HUNT AND TOUR Friday, October 1, 2021 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Hidden trinkets await discovery throughout the garden! Join us for instructions on the East Terrace, followed by a fun and challenging scavenger hunt in the crisp air through Greenwood’s historic landscape. Prizes awarded to scavenger hunt winners! A mini-tour of the inside of the Main House follows.

EXPERIENCE TAI CHI IN THE GARDEN

With Carl Klemme, Tai Chi Practitioner, Glow Yoga Center & PS108 Yoga

This session will introduce you to the ancient Chinese technique of tai chi, a graceful form of exercise, akin to meditation in motion, through which various self-defense forms are strung together into a fluid, slow-motion sequence. The result is a quieter mind, reduced stress, and improved balance, posture, and strength. Surrounded by the beauty of Greenwood Gardens, Carl, an experienced instructor, will teach you a variety of short tai chi flows that you can enjoy practicing at home.

AUTUMNAL NATURAL HISTORY RAMBLE THROUGH THE GARDENS Friday, October 22, 2021 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. With Peter P. Blanchard III, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board Peter will lead participants through Greenwood for a walk on the wild side that will focus on seasonal changes. We’ll return to the Main House for warm cider following the ramble.

THE GENIUS OF BEES – THE QUEEN AND HER CITY Wednesday, October 27, 2021 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. With Joe Lilenho, Beekeeper, Hilltop Honey

In this indoor lecture and presentation, expert beekeeper Joe Lilenho dives deeply into the inner workings of the bee colony, providing fascinating facts about building the hive, cell creation, and the collection of nectar, pollen, water, and propolis. Learn how each bee interacts with the Queen and one another as they go about their important work in their “tidy” hive. Joe will demonstrate how the beekeeper works in conjunction with the colony to ensure the health of the hive and delicious honey production. $15 members; $20 non-members.

Art Forms in Nature – an inspiring workshop by teaching artist and designer Karen Fuchs. The beauty, design and function of forms in the natural world such as branching, the Fibonacci spiral, and star-radial will be explored. Participants will observe and study these growth patterns, draw from specimens and images, and create an art project based on these concepts. Registration required. $25 members; $35 non-members.

Erin Barach Show in Baltimore

From AAC Advisor Erin Barach: I’m excited to share I have a last minute solo show Markmaking opening at movement space AsanaRoots, down the street from the Charles Theater in Baltimore. It’s a BEAUTIFUL space. I can’t wait to share my drawings and collage somewhere viewers will already be thinking about their bodies and our nature as physical beings with boundaries and boundless energy. 

During the opening, I’ll be working on a collaborative collage using imagery of found marks from the AsanaRoots space. Visitors are invited to observe and participate in the process! AsanaRoots is located at 1707 N. Charles Street on the Second Floor. The opening is on Friday, April 6th at 7:30. You can check out the facebook event here

Oscar Peterson’s art on display this summer

A diptych (titled: Eyes on You) will be in the Hunterdon Art Museum Faculty Exhibition (7 Lower Center Street, Clinton, NJ). That show runs June 17 to September 3, with the opening reception Saturday June 17, from 2:00 to 4:00PM. The event is free and open to the public. Also, his drawing “Classic Pose” will be part of the Center for Contemporary Art’s summer art auction. Gardens Bee Day Event

Next Film Festival starting January 18, 2014  

More details to come soon about the next series, “Weird Worlds”.  This film series for the family at the Millburn Library will be screened on the following Saturdays: January 18, February 15, March 15 and April 26 – at 2 pm each day.

 

October 2013: “Rotare” Installation Ceremony and “Millburn Landmarks” at the Millburn Library

Please check back for more details about the Lenny Shapiro “Rotare” Installation Celebration, scheduled for October 12th.

October also will feature the Art Advisory’s annual art show, “Millburn Landmarks” featuring works created by Millburn-Short Hills artists and owned by the township.  Scholarship winning pieces from last year’s high school AP Art students will be part of the show.  This artworks will be in the main lobby and  on display from October 1-31.

Six Week Film Festival to Return

The Six Week Film Festival will be returning to the Millburn Library on select Saturdays and Sunday in the fall and winter of 2012/2013.  Upcoming family friendly series are “Around the World” and “Classic Animation for Kids”.  Check back to see the full list of films and dates.

Gala

The Arts Advisory Committee will be hosting a gala at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston in the spring of 2013, date and time to be announced.  (This is rescheduled from November 29, 2012.)   $80 for individual ticket, $150 for pair to include buffet, wine, entertainment and dancing.  Stay tuned for more details.

Girls Night Out

The Arts Advisory Committee will have a table at Girls Night Out in the Millburn Town Hall parking lot on Thursday May 3, from 5- 9 pm.  We will have information available about our committee, and entries will be accepted for the Boardwalk Empire Poster Door Prize.  Entries will continue to be accepted until November.
